About Captiol I
Capitol I was a grey Holsteiner stallion born on May 2, 1975, bred by the Thormählen family in Germany. He stood around 1.69 m and carried the exemplary Holsteiner pedigree: sired by Capitano out of the mare Folia (by Maximus x Ramzes). Though his own competition record was modest, his true legacy lies in his exceptional influence as a sire. Over time he became a cornerstone of modern show-jumping breeding, especially through his offspring and their results at the highest levels. Capitol I passed away on 28 September 1999.
Achievements
Sired more than 30 licensed stallions globally and countless successful sport horses – a hallmark of his impact in breeding.
His progeny dominated major championships: for example, at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games three of his offspring (including Carthago Z and Cento) competed, and at the 2004 Olympics thirteen offspring were present.
His bloodline achieved rare feats: in 2000 at the prestigious CSIO Aachen Grand Prix two of his sons took 1st & 2nd places.
His pedigree blended top Holsteiner and Thoroughbred lines (notably the “C” breeding line via Cottage Son xx and Ramzes AA) which helped shape the modern sport-horse.
